Can't drill deep enough

Holes I'm doing on left hand side red brick. Right have side I'm getting grey / black dust.
If you've only drilled through the plaster using a shortened plug and screw into this is not strong enough.0 -

Not sure that will work. Think I have a solution though. Got some M8 screws I've not used that are shorter. So if I cut the wall plugs short a bit and use those screws instead think I'll be good?
If you were able to easily drill as deep as you did, there's not enough support there for the rawl plug. You have three solutions. One, keep trying, using as much weight behind it as you can. Two, get a stronger drill and/or better quality drill bits. Three, drill some pilot holes in other places to see if the TV can be mounted in a slightly different location.0 -

An old flue liner? If a fire is in use be careful not to disturb liners, they protect against carbon monoxide seeping through the brickwork.0

Some walls are really hard and you need a better drill. I was drilling some holes on a job last week which had old stone walls. The 2kg SDS went into most of them, but there were a few places that it wouldn't touch, but the 5kg went straight through them.0

continuity setting on a meter and see if there is conductivity between the backs of the two holes.
How deep are the holes so far, and how heavy is the TV?0 -
Problem is with these sort of things is it "could be" anything with an old property.
How old to start with?
Any chance of there being hard stone like granite in there somewhere?
Some engineering brick is hard enough to stop a normal hammer drill and bit.
Any chance that there has been gas lighting? Sometimes even very old gas pipes have been found which are still "live"
The same with wiring in conduit.
And water pipes.
Back boiler? Associated pipework?
Lintel?
The list is endless.
One other thing that does occur to me is to try a magnetic pick up tool to see if it's ferrous metal that's stopping the drill.0 -
Think it's an old chimney flue.
Got some shorter screws and some slightly shorter wallplugs that I had spare from another tv bracket. Done the trick.
Thanks for everyone's help!0 -
These days with TV they are so light(65" <25kg) they don't the serious mounts needed for 60kg plasma.0
