Can't drill deep enough

Hello!

Trying to wall hang my tele and coming across an issue.

Been provided wall plugs and screws, but I can't drill deep enough to fit them in. Get about half a centimetre short and then get stuck. Think the bit is OK and was relatively easy up to that point and then won't budge. Not with a smaller drill bit either to do a pilot hole.

What are my options here?

Are you using a hammer drill ?

Is it a modern building ( possible metal frame) or old building ?

I've hit an old disused metal conduit in an old property , hidden under the plaster. Had to change to a metal drill

What are you drilling into? Use a torch to look in the hole.

    Hammer drill with masonry bit.

Old property. It's above a electric fire place so not sure if that means anything

Guessing I don't want to drill in to metal? If it's there it's there for a reason right?

So couple of things it seems.

Holes I'm doing on left hand side red brick. Right have side I'm getting grey / black dust.

Can't really see at end of hole. Just looks black.

Use hammer drill, slowest speed, with decent masonry drill bits and you must put all your weight behind the drill.

Is it a chimney breast if it's above a fire ? Could be the metal flue?

Don't think it is. Think the actual chimney breast is in a different place.

Had a look into the holes and loaded to YouTube but can't post a link. Doesn't look like metal to me

Try a screw detector to check if there's really metal there. Or could it be a lintle?

Not sure that will work. Think I have a solution though. Got some M8 screws I've not used that are shorter. So if I cut the wall plugs short a bit and use those screws instead think I'll be good?
