Car 'chugging'

No engine light but sudden onset of chugging was fixed by new spark plug leads for me - was worse when I put my foot down but generally not noticeable when I accelerated slowly and carefully.
I was thinking it would be timing or something horrible but new plug leads fixed immediately.
Mine not a Ford but I hope yours is as easy!0 -
It's a Fiesta;
.
The MK6 Fiesta you have is known for coil packs failing and it taking out the ECU, often due to spark plugs that've never been changed or the leads breaking down - ideally should be done every 30,000 miles, not the 40,000 recommended and use genuine Ford leads. If it has just started doing it then you should be fine, it is when continuing to drive it like that that the damage to the ECU can occur. Couple of hundred quid to have the ECU repaired if it has done that as well so not the end of the world and if you're handy with a spanner the coil pack is easy to change and they're not that expensive. There is also a vacuum pipe somewhere near the top back of the engine which can get splits in it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Sounds like a failing in tank fuel pump, as you say it gets worse on a up hill which could mean that its struggling to provide full pressure to the fuel rail or like is said above it could be a coil, but to be honest no one will on a forum with out seeing it, best thing to do take it to your garage and get them to diagnose it and take it from there

Exactly the same for me not too long ago. Mine was a Ford Fiesta though.0 -
well upshot is I now am picking up a 'new' car Monday. 0% finance.
Looking to fix this one as cheaply as possible then maybe sell it; got a few months MOT left to run. Or scrap it if too dear to fix.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

you can buy "F super" diagnostic CD and lead for £15 off Ebay and load on a laptop, that will read from the OBD2 port and give you any faults recorded or stored0

Or you can use Forscan which supports many more vehicles, has much more functionality, a very active community support forum on the Forscan site and which you can download for free both for PC or Andriod/iOS devices (via Bluetooth) and use it with a Ford compatible (dual speed) OBD2 reader.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
