Selling photographs

Does anyone know if it possible to sell photographs online (or anywhere)? I love taking pictures of scenery, trees, plants etc and would love to see if my work is good enough to sell as I only do it as a hobby just now. Any advice welcome.

Especially the bit I did about falling prices for stock photography.
You say that you like taking pictures of plants (that's my speciality) You might take a nice picture of a tulip but your chances of selling that are minute; but if you could identify that tulip with say its species name and if applicable its cultivar name your chances of selling are greatly increased.
Also it tends to be a numbers game to get anything like regular sales you need to be producing lots of pictures on a regular basis.0
