Free Addiction Treatment

Hello everyone, I thought I'd write a quick post to help guide people that need recovery from alcohol and drug misuse but don't know how to, where to go, or have the funds available to go private.

Addiciton treatment in the UK consists of:

1. Going to your GP
2. Who refers you to an Alcohol & Drug Partnership or Community Addiciton Team (usually NHS & social work)
3. Who give you a date in the future to go see them for an assesment
4. You get minimum treatment, if any, and wait for weeks and months
5. Obtain outpatient treatment (perhaps a detox) and day rehab

In my experience, this is not enough, or not immediate enough in order to get well from alcohol or drugs.

In order to beat alcohol of drugs, it requires LOTS of effort, time and hard work, in order fo rlong-term sustained recovery. attending an outpatient clinic once a week is not enough.

My advice is:

• Search online for FREE rehabs. They do exist and tend to be charities.
• Speak to addiction professionals, such as us to find out where to go and what help is available
• Chronic addiciton usually requires detox and immediate help. Ask you GP, find a private GP which will be much cheaper, or if you have funds, shop around as they can vary massively in price
• Attend fellowship meetings such as Alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, cocaine anonymous etc.
• Read as much as you can about recovery.
• Be persistent with NHS/Social services in order ot get fast treatment and inpatient if available - those who shout loudest get heard.
