Beginners luck?

I've been comping a few years now. I put in a good few hours a day and used to win a prize a few times a week back in the day. Now I'm happy if I get one a month - and that might only be 20p from a hummingbird (not a sniff from that little sod so far lately).

Hubby just started doing a few. Maybe half an hour a day max. He's won 3 prizes in a week. All small but still nice. And I entered all the comps he did ( I sent him them after). I have often seen new people come and say they won a few while most of say the pickings are really thin now. I'm seriously wondering if it is beginners luck or if us old compers actually do get overlooked for some reason I haven't figured out.

I did kinda think the same but I wonder if it's just that new compers will just enter everything, whereas the seasoned Pro's will be a lot more selective about what they enter?

New compers will enter for any old tatt :)

No, these were all comps from the same firm of crafting mags, that I have been entering for years. I've often seen with certain mags and radio comps that the same winner keeps coming up. Just never been me. Well hubby just won 3 in a row - all worth about 10-20 quid each but stuff that would be popular all the same. Not complaining mind cos he gave em all to me. But still curious. And he's entered NOTHING that I haven't.

I often wonder if "mens" names are chosen for a change as I reckon most comps are won by women?

Well, I'm a man and I've not won a thing this year :) (except a dog lead from Auto Trader but I'm pretty sure most people got something out of that comp)

You should make sure you're not disqualifying yourself (ie. one entry per household/ip address etc)

I started comping last June and won 6 really good prizes in first few months but now get absolutely no wins. Noting at all since last September so I too am wondering if something is going on.
  • If it helps, I've been comping for a few months and not won anything. I do about 1-1.5 hours a day so I don't think it's beginner's luck (or lack of) but I do wonder what the odds are with some posts getting 1K+ views? How does it compare to maybe a year, 3 years ago? Are there more people comping or maybe less competitions nowadays?
