Cancelling LA Fitness Membership

I've been a long time lurker here, but haven't posted yet. So here goes....

Looking for peoples thoughts on the below.

I've been a member of LA Fitness for a year now, however I canceled my membership today since I won't be able to go to my local one anymore. That's all fine since I've been a member for over 12 months and no longer under contract, however they're telling me that I still need to pay for December at the end of this month despite the fact that I'm not going to be able to use this. Fair enough it says it in the T&Cs that you need to give 1 months notice to leave (or so they tell me, I need to dig them out if I still have them to have a look), but when I'm not going to be using the service can they still charge me for it? Is this not an unreasonable term to have in the T&Cs?

    Hi
I don't think this is unreasonable, most contracts (sky, mobile phones etc) will insist on 30 days notice. I'd suggest you could possibly go down to the gym and speak to the manager who may be able to refund Decembers payment as a goodwill gesture (be nice).

If it's in the T&C's then I don't see a problem with them charging you. You would have signed and agreed to this on commencement of your membership.
You'll find that this is a standard cancellation period for all sorts of things nowadays ranging from mobile phone contracts to gym membership.

Is anyone else able to use the Gym on your membership for the month ? As the poster above says, it doesn't hurt to ask (nicely)for a refund or partial refund for the month, but if they say no then they are quite within their rights to do so.
