Higher Education - Tuition Fee Loans (SFE)
Hi
My daughter is doing a Higher Education course which has 2 days / week contact time (so 40% of an academic year).
The college / university is charging, via the Student Finance England (SFE), nearly £9,000pa. This money adds to the student loan.
Is there any way to challenge this high level of fees.
I presume other people have a similar concern.
Concerned parent

How many hours contact time in the 2 days? From my experience of university (too long ago) I think I had 16 hours contact time a week over 4 days but different courses had vastly different time.May you find your sister soon Helli.

The cost of the course doesn't just cover teaching time. It covers the resources, access to the facilities, materials etc.
What course is she planning to do?
I expect there is a well stocked library with experienced librarians able to help with literature searches, access to journals and resources not usually available to individuals, computers and other electronics available for use (maybe with special software depending on the course). There will be counselors available to give help and support. There may be visiting lecturers/experts giving talks. Probably subsidized cafes, restaurants, shops, sporting facilities, printing etc. Registration to professional bodies, exams. Free WiFi and electricity. A posh certificate at the end (assuming the course is passed).
It must cost a lot to run a university, I'm not sure the cost of a course is negotiable. If you do ask for a reduction in course fees based on contact hours I'd be interested to see their reply.Debt Free: 01/01/2020
