home-made christmas wreaths

Hi guys and girls i am hoping to make some extra money this christmas by selling my home made christmas wreaths at a food market. I have previously just made them for friends and family so i have no idea what people would pay at a market!

Can i ask how much you would pay for a natural traditional home-made holly wreath? small ones are 12" and large ones are 18"

Thanks! x

  • bear in mind I'm a cheap cow, £6 for small, £10 for large.
I suppose you need to consider how much do your materials cost and how long it takes you to make them to work out a price also if you are selling at an organic / farmers market you may be able to make more money.
Also when are you selling them - this may also have an impact on prices.

we usually get a Morrissons one for £5. But they're made from christmas tree rather than holly.
  • i like holly ones :)
  • thanks guys - basically these sort of Holly wreaths sell in florists for £25-£40 - obviously this is too much to pay 'on impulse' at a street market but they do take 20min to make each plus costs of renting the space, public liability costs, delivery of sundries etc etc
  • Florists do very basic holly wreaths really cheaply at christmas, but they generally look cheap too.I have seen plain holly wreaths with a pillar box red gift type ribbon bow on top for £6.I wouldn,t buy those.
If you do something a bit nicer and more elegant, maybe with a more luxurious ribbon or with options such as added snow spray, gold or silver sprayed add ons and different options for colours of ribbons then you are doing something totally unique and made to order. For that I would pay about £18 for a small one and over £25 for a bigger one.
Most people buy 2,one for the storm doors and another for the inner door,so maybe offer a discount on 2.
Do your research.See what your local florists and m&s are offering and go one better.
Good luck with it,it sounds great!!!
You could do the swags too for doors and holly advent candle wreaths complete with candles.

  • i would go for homemade holly wreaths

easily £15-20 quid at a market if they are good. Can you post a pic? Love to see people's pictures but would also give an idea of what you're selling :-)

  • Hi guys,

thanks so much for your support! I am feeling a lot more confident about it and very excited about expanding my hobby into a mini-business!
(we can all do with some extra income over the festive season!)
Great tips from 'shelovestobuy' much appreciated. My holly wreaths will have an option of a red, gold or tartan bow - all really good quality textile ribbon (not wrapping ribbon) and I have pine cones and ball-bells for those who want to go 'deluxe' so hopefully I am thinking along the lines you suggested!

haylibo-unfortunately i cannot upload a pic as yet as because they are fresh I will not be making them up for another couple of weeks to ensure they last the season!

Actually that another question - how early do you buy yours everyone?

Laura's you can expect to start selling the first week in December, and your sales to double each week till christmas week.

I'd also take order's if you are sure you can deliver (I know exactly how painful it is making those suckers up when your hands get cold and covered in scratches! When your done at night slather your hands in vaseline!)

Oh, I'd also get some 'peacock' coloured ribbons and extra's too, it's very 'in' this year.

    Good luck!
