Hi all
My wife (ex wife after divorce) has basically left me i a ton of debt in my name with credit cards and catalogs that she took out a few years back and I can’t prove it was her. There is £2,000 left and I want to move out of my parents house where I had to go when she left me. My parents allow me to have the children over for sleep overs ok but when the ex wife needs me to take the children so she can do something then they are reluctant as they don’t like how she has turned out and want nothing to do with her. Now I understand that it is their house and not for me to control when they can stay over. Now this leads me on to my question. I want my own place so bad. I’ve even seen a flat I like. I I lived alone I would have the kids over together almost anytime I wasn’t working. I need help to get out of the debt and in my own place ASAP as having both kids at the same time is not practical as they have to share a single bed top and tail. How can I prove she put me in debt or get help from somewhere that I can manage the debt and move out soon!!

I don't think you can prove she put you in to debt unless you didn't sign the credit agreements.
I think start with a statement of affairs on here and the lovely experienced people may be able to help you review your current spending and help you see a way of paying down the debt quicker.
If there isn't much to be cut from your current spending then you may want to speak to StepChange, a free debt charity that may be able to give you some advice/options on how to get out of this pickle.Wobbling my way out of debt one month at a time

As far as I'm aware this should have been dealt with in the divorce. All financial affairs should have been. If she created the debt after the divorce you could have reported it to action fraud but I don't see how they could accept it now as you've been paying for two years.
I don't see how repaying £2000 should hold you back from renting. Unless there's defaults but even then that shouldn't cause an issue really as they can only see CCJs and bankruptcy. As pp have said post up an SOA and people can help you plan. XxxLoan 1 £5200/£8000

My port of call would be a different one, speak to a credit reference agency and explain whats happened with your wife and the debts see if they can give you any advice. Its a tuff one this as in the modern age its not like in the past where you applied for a credit card and you got sent a form and you signed it. So much now is done online, i would also advise signing up to a credit reference agency alert service. This is so if anyone tries to sign upto anything in your name your alerted.x0

Speak to one of the debt charitys.
They can maybe help you with negotiating lower payments.

The statement of affairs is http://www.stoozing.com/calculator/soa.php and format for MSE. It's where you list out your income and outgoings to get an idea of whether you can afford your debt and see where you can cut back. You would post it on this thread so other posters can give you advice on managing things going forward.
Have you sought any legal advice on the divorce?
