The house is ours without a mortgage so didn’t know if I could just get a mortgage cos we live there already

How are obtaining the house gift?

If it is you have gift with reservation issues and not all mortgage lenders will be happy with the setup.

Could you get a loan, as opposed to mortgage, for the money you need?

We have moved into my parents house and in the process of changing the house into mine and my husbands name. We are wanting to do an extension but need to remortgage to do so. When I have been looking at mortgages I aren't a first time buyer, looking at remorgage they are asking for my mortgage details that I already have! which we don't have an existing mortgage on the property?
What do I put it under?

    That's starting.

That step could hinder getting a mortgage along with it potentially being a gift and the donor still living in the place.

No idea if you took advise on the potential impact of putting her house into your names, like potentially making your mother homeless and what steps need to be taken to avoid that

There are also implications for your mother in just "putting the house in your name":
