Oh no - not what he would want to hear - where is best to look at an eligibility checker? What if he got a guarantor? I am not sure how these things work - neither is he. Sorry of ot sounds so vague.

What - that he will struggle to get a loan, or that he should sell the car and buy a cheap runaround?

Another vote for avoiding guarantor loans. He's experienced redundancy once, and how long it can take to regain employment. All that will happen is the poor sod of a guarantor gets stiffed with ridiculously high payments.

You haven't some back with how much he saves every month. Realistically, that amount is all he could afford in repayments on a loan because that's what he has spare.

Sell the car and buy a second hand cheap one for cash.

That he will struggle to get a loan sorry. He has 200 a month he can afford on a car.
The guarantor idea has now been abolished.
He's going to check the eligibility checker on here and take it from there.
All your input is much appreciated and he is listening. Thank you
