Is it unusual to never win?

I found this website back in August 2009 and so for nearly 10 years I've been entering online competitions every single day.

In that time I've only won 2 competitions. A bottle of fragrance and a weekend away which I never actually received. The hotel never contacted me and the train passes sent to me weren't even valid for travel when I tried to use them.

I doubt anyone here has had as bad luck as me. And I literally enter every single morning. It's become a habit even though I don't win. I also enter those listed on other comp listing sites too. And occasionally paid entry comps.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I see other people complaining of having a 'dry spell' of a month or two yet their signature will reveal they've won countless big competitions. If only...

how long do you spend entering/how many do you enter each day, its all a numbers game, the more you enter the more chance you have of winning, but as it is with probability, there is always the chance that your name will not be picked, nothing is guaranteed in this hobby.

its always best to think of it as just a hobby with the possibility of a win, some people like to take a break and come back refreshed. there is no magic formula to ensure a win, just keep entering and hope for a win :)

good luck, keep your fingers crossed :)

It's more unusual to be using the site for a decade without registering.

Even if I only entered 10 comps/day that would still mean I've entered over 30,000 competitions and only won 2. And I enter far more.

I see others who'll post that they started 2 weeks ago and have had their first win. Or people who say 'wow, I only starting comping last week and I've had a phone call telling me I've won a holiday to Florida, can't believe it!'. Meanwhile I'm grinding away for nothing.

I used to have an account but I've long since forgotten the login details. What point was there in logging in? To tell people it's been another month without a win. Only to have people with the signatures like

    "Wins so far in 20XX - £5000 ITV :j Alaskan cruise :j £500 cash:j New sofa :j Sky package:j"

say they've had a bad 3 days too.

To contribute and leave thanks on the competitions you enter?

If nothing else to make use of the "tick" and "X" to identify if you have already seen/entered a competition.
  • Do you do social media competitions? This is where I find most of my wins come from, facebook, twitter and instagram now!

I saw someone the other day say they’ve not won anything in 23 years of entering competitions! I’m not sure I would carry on with it, if it were me or I’d try doing things differently.
You say you enter comps on other listing sites, are you sure you’re not entering multiple times, thereby disqualifying yourself? If you had registered and logged in, you could track what ones you had entered. Having said that, competitions on listing websites will generally have more entries simply by being on a listing site.
Logging in also means you can subscribe to threads and sub-boards, which can also help.
Are you in any comping groups such as ones on Facebook? You may get an early heads-up, might find comps not listed on the sites you use and you will certainly get advice, tips, inspiration and help, even with chasing up the weekend away that didn’t materialise
