Attention landlords. Councils are your competitors...

Hello to all who plan to purchase to rent.... and those who already have....

Is this really a free market?

London Borough Councils are still actively buying up property in the home counties. Not only councils, it is also the housing associations and organisations providing housing for London borough constituents that are acquiring property.

Is this really a free market?

Have you found yourself out bid, or not even considered as a buyer where significant sections of a block of flats or developments are bought off plan?

    How do councils operate outside of the free market?
    They could buy numbers of new build with a discount for sale, that’s the only way I can see.

    Otherwise for a single 2nd hand property they are competing in the free market aren’t they?

    The main problem is that councils and housing associations change significantly lower rents. Neighbours talk, and disgruntled private tenants don't like their neighbours paying a lot less the them.

    But private landlords can't lower the rents and still make it worth all the risk and worry and taxes and paperwork and bills, and vacant periods and bad tenants,

    Bottom line, get out of buy to let now before prices tumble 35% due to he fallout from brexit debacle
    Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future

    My BTL was bought by a council and I was very happy. Efficient solicitors, no silly questions, fair price. They viewed through the EA like anyone else and made an offer.

    They're not preventing others from buying so yes, it is a free market.
