New (old) Comper - advice & tips

Hi All,

I did some comping a few years ago, stuck at it for around 6 months but didn't win a thing so gave up.

I've recently had some surgery so laid up with time to fill, so thought I'd give it another go.

So, has anyone got any advice for me on getting some wins this time around? I want to know what I was doing wrong before...

Probably nothing. Not everyone can win ... I've won nothing for a year now.

I think it's a mistake to expect to win. If you do, you're bound to be disappointed. Wins don't usually happen that often. I think it's better to enjoy comping for the hope of winning, rather than counting on it. That way, it's a really fun and exciting hobby, rather than endless disappointment.

I enter about 2000 competitions per month and tend to average about 20-30 wins per year. However, during the mid-2000s, I went 3 years without a single win, soul destroying and almost gave up entirely. Just keep going, don't expect to win and at some point you'll get a lovely surprise. A much cheaper hobby than going out to the pub....
