Trainline Refund

Options
Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased x3 open return tickets from trainline , and used each of the outward journey one's, however on the way back my battery had died, so could not show proof of the return tickets as I had downloaded the etickets,so had to buy 3 additional single tickets to return home.

The staff at the station said I should be able to get the return etickets refunded, however after contacting trainline the day after on the phone, I was told by an extremey rude lady I would not be able to get any refund, and after trying online I have been told I will only be eligible for a refund of £39.95

I originally purchased x3 tickets at a cost of £85.20 (£42.60 each way) each- total price £255.6 . I could not use the return tickets, so had to purchase another 3 tickets at £51.25 each total price £153.75

I believe I should be refunded for the tickets for the return jouney I could not use at £42.60 each- Total £127.80

Could anyone offer any advice?

Many Thanks,

Grant

    Your calculations are flawed.

You tell us a return ticket costs £85.20, and a single is £51.25.

Therefore, if any refund is due, it is only £33.95 each, not £42.60.

But please keep in mind that the only reason you are in this situation is due to your inability to show the ticket inspector the tickets you had already purchased.

To be honest, I cannot see that you are due any refund, but if they are offering you anything, take it graciously.
  • Hi Keith,

The online ticket price I paid for the open return was £85.20 each, however the extra single tickets to get home was £51.25 each which I had to buy at the platform.

    The trainline website states under the refunds section;

    REFUNDS

If you decide not to use your ticket to make all or part of your intended journey then you can apply for a refund from the My Account pages, or through Customer Support within 28 days of expiry of the ticket. Please note, the outward portion cannot be refunded if the return portion has been used. A GBP 10. 00 administration fee will apply

I thought I would help the enviroment and not print any tickets off but did not plan on my battery unfortunately going flat. The staff at the platform also told me I would be able to get the unused tickets refunded.

I have no issue with the admin fee but to be left £127.80 out of pocket for an unforunate incident is tough to take.

Did you buy advance tickets? If so you've no entitlement to a refund at all. Otherwise phone them and ask how they've calculated the £39.95 which doesn't make sense to me as it's not a multiple of 3.
