Overtaken Holiday Pay

Options
I currently have an 8 hour contract with the company I work for and this year have only requested 1 holiday day (months ago) - the rest have all been allocated to me by my manager. In my last pay check i noticed i was underpaid and after checking with payroll they said i have taken too much holiday however I didn't request the holiday my manager made me take it off and i presumed i had to take it (would have happily worked) so now I'm missing quite a bit of pay and unsure where i stand in this situation? Apparently my manager put the holiday through on the system and it said it had gone through so it could be an error on the system? Surely this isn't my fault as my manager should have checked my holiday allowance before making me take it? I offered to work the extra hours to earn the money as i really need it and they said they can't authroise any overtime at the moment and won't let me take it from next years holiday pay? Is this allowed?

It is your responsibility to check that you have the correct (legal minimum) holiday entitlement.

You should know how much holiday you are entitled to, and if they allocated more than this it was your responsibility to check it.

If you are short of money then ask to repay it in installments. (they don't have to agree)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I wasn't overpaid so nothing to pay back. The problem is they said I had to take the holiday as I had to use up the rest of my holiday allowance before April (presumed they were giving me the correct amount off) so when it got put through to payroll they saw i didnt have enough holiday left so i got underpaid. This means they didn't give me my 8 contracted hours surely? I've offered to work the hours to make the money back that I've lost but they said they can't give me any overtime. So essentially they've said I can't work even though im contracted to work at least 8 hours and refusing to let me work now to make up for the lost pay which can't be right? I honestly had no idea how much holiday i was entitled to and didnt even want the time off just thought I had to take it off.

If the issue was paying back money i owed them i wouldn't have a problem with it at all. It's just the fact ive been left with almost no pay for the week they said I had to have off as holiday because of a mistake they made.

There is a mutual obligation to check the paid holiday is correct.

In a case where you were told to not turn up for work but were available you could argue they should pay your contractual hours once there is no holiday left.

You won't be working overtime if you do the hours you will be doing the work you should have been doing just now at a different time.

I suspect you manager knew what they were doing to get their payroll down.

I would push back on this a bit, as they should pay you your contracted hours even if you don't work unless the contract allows for reduced hours.
How much you push back depends on how much you want to keep the job and how long you have worked there with the usual over two years caveat.

You potentially have a min wage issue as well if they have paid you short in a pay period and the pay is relatively low.

Always check everything related to pay and holiday,

You have checked they have not made a different mistake and got the holiday allowance wrong.

What days/hours do you work, how much holiday have you got for the year and what days have you taken.

You have been paid for the days you have worked and paid for your holiday entitlement. Employers can dictate when you take your holiday which they appear to have done here.

I would suggest you keep a better eye on what leave you have taken and what you have yet to take. Maybe be a bit more proactive about your leave plans.

What the OP is saying is the boss said take a days as holiday when there were none left so in effect take a day unpaid

That has left them short of their contracted hours.
