2 Jobs Taxed But Not Hitting Allowance Limit

in Cutting tax
I'm currently in a placement job for 3 months making £698/month and have a side events job that nets about 150-300/month. Therefore, I'll not have actually hit the personal allowance limit. I just got my payslip for placement got taxed £138. Is there a way to claim this back and stop it for the rest of my placement?

It is too late now to change this for the current tax year but HMRC will automatically refund any excess tax deducted after the end of the tax year. Anytime from May - November.
You can though ask for your Personal Allowance to be split between the two jobs for the 2019:20 tax year starting in April. You might be able to do it online through your Personal Tax Account but definitely by phoning HMRC. You need to work out in advance what you think your annual taxable income from each job will be in the 2019:20.
If the side events job was already going before the placement job then the new tax codes might look like this,
400L at side events job (no tax to pay unless your annualised earnings exceed £4009 i.e. £334 each monthly payday)
850T at placement job (no tax to pay unless your annualised earnings exceed £8509 i.e. £709 each monthly payday)
When you stop work for the placement job then you can rejig things to take account of what you actually earned in 2019:20 up until the point you stopped working at the placement job.0
