DVDs from Canada

I want to buy some DVD box sets and have found the ones I want on a Canadian website. The total value is $209. How much duty am I likely to get charged? Obviously I am trying to save money so don't want the saving to go on import duty!!

VAT of 17.5% and import duty of 3.5% for DVD's
The prices will vary on exchange rates but your looking at about £23 on top of the purchase price you gave

The other problem is that you also get stung buy the company bringing them in Post office or courier as for customs to release the item to them they pay the duty and VAT and as a result sting the receiver for an administration charge.

thanks for the reply. I may just go ahead. even if I have to pay £23 they would still be a lot cheaper than buying in the UK.

Just don't forget that DVD's from Canada are region 1

Can't you buy them in separate lots? If you can keep the value of a despatch under about £20 then you wont pay duty at all. I frequently buy DVDs, CDs and T shirts from US but don't pay any duties on them. I started many years ago buying CDs from CD Now (later taken over by an emergent Amazon) and soon realised that if I bought more than about 3 or 4 at a time I ran into customs duty, collection charge from Royal Mail, and lengthy delays in arrival.

Why not post which DVDs you would like to buy and I am sure the helpful people on here will have a look round and see if they can get a better price elsewhere.

I am looking for Scrubs seasons 1 - 6 and Friends seasons 1 - 10. If anyone knows where I can buy these at a reasonable price I would be very grateful.
