Any Tesco employees??

Hi

My friend has worked for Tesco for 7 years, and has never had a day off sick. She has sprained her ankle very badly, and is worrying because someone has told her that she will not be paid when off sick.

I have found a post on the forums that you are entitled to four weeks full pay when off sick (in the operiod of a year), through Tesco.

She has a sick note for two weeks, but as she is a single mom with 4 children, she needs the money, so she says she will go back to work if she only gets SSP. She hasn't handed the sick note in yet, although she has told them she is off sick.

Could anyone please confirm what the policy is at tesco?

Thanks
Caleo

  • My Son works for Tesco & was off sick earlier this year, got full pay to start with but then got the SSP after 4 weeks, it's a lot less than what he's normally paid & he really struggled on it.

Thanks! so it seems that the first four weeks are apid in full.that helps alot.

I agree the SSP is awful isn't it? Fortunately I work for the NHS and we get full pay for 6 Months---hope I never need to use it for that long though!!

    Thanks again!

If she checks with her wages section in store or the Personel Manager they will advise her what sick pay she should get. Depending on what job she does, even if she cannot do her normal job (if it involves walking or standing up for any period of time) then they may be able to offer her alternative work such as checkout operator where you can be sitting down.
She may be able to take some time off as holiday pay to keep her income up.

    I wish her well!

    Thanks
  • i have worked for tesco for 13 years you get 6 weeks sick money or thats what they tell us she might have to undergo the return to work thing they do
  • The longer you work there & the older you get the more they'll pay for longer, my son has worked for them for just over a year & at 18 is paid the barest minimum they can get away with, he also had to go through the return to work interview, it's a doddle though.

    Thanks everyone!!

She has managed to get hold of personnel and they confirmed it is four weeks for her, so fortunately she won't be out of pocket and she can rest her foot!

    Much appreciated!
