Today is the first day of my using the Agile Octopus tariff for electricity. I signed up to this tariff very much as a matter of interest rather than from an expectation of saving a lot of money. We have got to make some effort to contain our usage from 4 PM to 7 PM. Our base load averages 330 Watts and we have solar.
Does anyone here use this tariff?

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Would be interested on the costs per day for this, I know it changes, but if you could let people know the hourly rates, that would be good.Living in supposedly sunny Kent

The rates change daily. Here are the half hourly rates that Octopus has sent me for today.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -
Wow, so basically for today, you are paying around 10p a unit, with a peak at the usual timeLiving in supposedly sunny Kent

Hopefully as the days lengthen solar could/should cover that 4pm to 7pm period..... its in the winter you're gonna get hit...... swings and roundabouts I suppose?

I've downloaded from the Octopus website their spreadsheet of half-hourly unit prices for last year.
I'm not yet sure how much it will help me to be on the Agile Octopus tariff. We generally use only small loads in the later evening (after the peak times) and the night-time costs are very similar if not slightly higher than my economy 7 - when we use timers for the washing machine and dishwasher and schedule charge the EV. During the day-time, for 80% of the year I am generally using nothing / exporting.
Having downloaded the information I will keep a check on my usage. I can also use the historical data from the Owl monitors for the times when I was importing power.
An interesting little project!

I looked at the Agile tariff, but decided that the Go tariff was better for our circumstances.
When I compared the figures from the spreadsheet for last year, with the current actual daily rates, the figures in the spreadsheet were usually a lot lower than current rates. Even at night, between 00:30 & 04:30 when Go charges 5p/kWh, the Agile rates I have checked are usually higher.
Since changing to Go, our average rate, for ALL the electricity we use is about 7.5p/kWh, as we have been able to shift about 70% of our heavy usage to the low rate each night or when our PV system is producing enough.
I know of others, that have EV's, that have tried the Agile tariff, but switched to GO for a lower average rate.0 -

It is indeed. Octopus energy appears to be an engineering-led company and I think that they may just be ahead of the game.
My baseload including refrigerators and freezers is 330 watts or 2,978-kilowatt hours per annum. Obviously, that is not easy to manage. The washing machine (539- kilowatt per annum the tumble dryer (539-kilowatt hours per annum) and the dishwasher (291-kilowatt hours per annum) can be time managed. My annual solar contribution is 2,394 kilowatt-hours per annum.
I have studied my Energy Hive results and I appear to have a natural lull between 4 PM and 7 PM but there is potential to manage this more critically.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".0 -

Presumably, the fact that the person has an electric vehicle which he/she charges at night does not mean that the same person is happy to reduce consumption between 4 PM and 7 PM.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. I joined last week. Fixed tariff for 12 months.
Was with outfox the market until they decided to put a 20p a day standing charge on my gas.
Positive feedback, £88.00 a year cheaper and £25.00 cash back.

It is not so easy getting a house of four adults to adjust their 4 PM to 7 PM behaviour but I am giving it a go.
