Return damaged shoes with no receipt?

Hi
Can anyone help me? Before Christmas I bought a pair of
comfortable shoes for work and now the stitching has come
undone and a hole is forming. Can I still return the shoes even
though I have worn them for 6 months and I can't find the receipt?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I think its the Sale of Goods Act 1974 that states that goods have to be of resonable quality and fit for their purpose, however, 6 months shoe wearing will probably be classed as reasonable quality, and you probably wont get the money back, although im sure someone else will tell you the exact legal situation.

However, my friends mum bought a pair of expensive shoes and the heel broke when she was walking down some steps on the first time she wore them. She got a new pair sent direct from the supplier, and a different pair extra for free for the inconvenience. She was a long standing custmer with the boutique however, so I dont think general high street stores will be as generous!

If the stitching is coming away they are faulty, return them and you should get a new pair, did you not pay by card? A CC bill or bank statement is fine.

Thanks for your help. I think I paid with a Debit card would this show proof of purchase?

Yep, will be on an old bank statement, doesn't matter if they're faulty as they still have to give an exchange but helps if you want a refund or if they're being funny about it.

Agree that you could argue that the shoes are not of satisfactory quality as they have not lasted as long as they could be reasonably expected to last. The difficulty here is how long shoes are expected to last. I would imagine that depends on how often they are worn.
If the shop agrees they may offer a replacement or other solutions.
I would go back to the shop and see what they say. If no joy then put it in writing.

It's a bit of a grey area. Your best bet would be to try and get a rapport with a member of staff - maybe pop in without the shoes first to run it by them. If you can get someone on your side you'll be home and dry
