  • Check out all you local colleges one of them will offer a level 2 technical certificate in Carpentry. This the college based part of an NVQ2 and is usually run by City & Guilds so does carry some weight.

Colleges can and do help you find placements some more actively than others so going onto do the work based assessment required for an NVQ can be acheived even if you dont find an adult apprenticeship.

You maybe able to find an evening sessioned one which means you can still work whilst training.

Im currently about to start the 2nd year of my plumbing version of above and I am 37 so age is no barrier.

    Good luck with it all.
One day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T

Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged. :(

    Or maybe not:mad:

If you have had Joinery experience and can build woodern framework, hang a door ,put in architrave n skirting and cut and measure woodern panels whilst explaining what you can do, then try superskills.com. It costs £900 to do level 2 in wood occupations but thats in 2 days! With this you can get your blue experienced CSCS card as you do your health and safety too. I spoke to lovely woman called Julia the other day. Just got to safe up the 900 quid now.

    hope this helps

Ill be honest with you OP try and avoid the short expensive course, from what I understand they will leave you short of the skills required to get along in the work place.

At 26 you have got a lot of time on your side. Get a good course and get you head round it all properly and in a structered manner. Not in 5 minutes in a class room chopping lumps of wood up.

If you want a piece of paper then go for it, if you want the skills to pay the bills then take you time and learn properly.

Good Luck whichever way you choose.

    Cheers
