Signed off sick - can employer make me attend a training course?

I have the answers I need, thanks for the helpful replies.
@nicechap As you've looked into my post history, all you know is that I made an offer on a house that needed refurb in October. This doesn't relate to me becoming unwell 5 months later. Congrats on your super sleuthing though.0 -

If you don't believe that some employees will abuse sick leave when they're not actually sick, and that some employers will abuse sickness records when they're actually looking to get rid of someone then you're a fool.
Just because you're not going it, doesn't mean others aren't, including (possibly) someone else reading these posts who might be.0 -
Of course I know this is possible. However, it's not relevant in my case, so I fail to see the point in mentioning it in replies to my post regarding my situation.
I'm not faking my illness, I'm not concerned that my employer is trying to get rid of me because I put an offer in on a house some months back, and I'm not concerned about what other people who read this thread may or may not be doing. I asked for advice on a situation that personally refers to me. Hope that clears things up for you!0 -

You don't need to worry about my super sleuthing, its your employer you need to keep sweet. I do hope there is nothing on any social media of what you've been doing whilst on sick leave that might contradict your ability to attend training.
Let us know how you get on with you employer.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Thank you nicechap. However I assure you I have done everything above board. Provided GP fit notes on time, communicated when I've needed to, etc. I am inactive on social media, but as I've not been up to much anyway, there wouldn't be anything to see there. I am hoping that there will be alternate dates for the training when I am fit to work, it is a physical course so unfortunately not desk or web based. I will see how I get on after I speak further with my manager about it.0

No need to have a go at Oren; they were only looking for advice/opinions! Hope your health improves soon, OP.0

Oren, I hope you feel better soon. As others have said, if your GP has signed you off as not fit for work then that applies to the training course too. Do prioritise your recovery over anything else. I have some personal experience of being off sick for a while and in the long run it's your health that's important.0
