IBoost Immersion Heating

Hi,
My new system is working great but I have now worked out that the IBoost is only heating the top part of my Immersion tank (as you would expect). I understand that you can have a pump fitted but I have just been told of a simple DIY fix, lets see if I can explain it:
Basically you take a drain pipe section and put this in your tank, the element when fitted to the tank will go inside the pipe. you must make sure there is space for water to go in the bottom of the pipe and come out the top of the pipe. Basically as the water in the pipe is heated it pushes out the top of the pipe and then draws the cold in from the bottom so it basically creates the circulation.
Has anyone done this on here?

Hi - worth checking the length of your immersion heater before you do this. There are long ones designed to heat the cylinder from the bottom up and shorter ones to heat from the top or for side mounting. Not sure I like the idea of encasing the immersion heater in a plastic drainpipe!0

I’ve found them at 36” so basically covers the whole of my 140ltr tank. I have seen a dual element heater 11” and 36”. As my IBoost has two out puts I wondered if this would be worth doing?6kWp system, 20 x 300W Longi Solar panels with a Solis 6.0 inverter + Wifi and iBoost

I also have a 140 litre tank and a top mounted 27" element and have plenty of hot water for a bath and washing up each day.
Don't forget that as you use it it just heats more also it gets VERY hot.
My tank has a short bottom mounted element as well which can be wired to the second output of the iboost.4kWp, South facing, 16 x phono solar panels, Solis inverter, Lincolnshire.0 -
Yeah mine doesn't have a second element as it has the Gas heating coils. But as I seem to have a good system for generating power then I don't want to heat using gas. I think you are right that a 27" would cover a bath and a shower (before more heat is added) but if a 36" fits then it should cover most of the tank.6kWp system, 20 x 300W Longi Solar panels with a Solis 6.0 inverter + Wifi and iBoost
