Council Tax - Is there anything we can do?

We have been renting our home for a year. It's a very small 2 bed detached cottage surrounded by apple orchards which are owned and farmed by our landlord. Our council tax band is D which we have since discovered is very high for this type of property as similar ones in the area are band B. We've worked out though that when our landlord bought the house back in the 80's he also bought the land surrounding it which we assume makes the band so high as it covers both house and land. Are we able to try to lower the band or is it not worth trying as could doing so cause the landlord to have the extra amount for the land added to his council tax as he still lives nearby?

Cheers!
