Defective computer part they won't refund

Anyone know about defective goods? I'm in the middle of buying a new computer - in bits and my son will put it together. The expensive bit came with bent pins which are delicate. I don't want to try to bend them back in case they break off. I bought it from Aria PC who say "Unfortunately, physical damage is not covered under warranty so we will not be able to accept it back. "
The actual processor is made by AMD who say
"I understand that you have Ryzen 5 2600 processor in pin bent condition and you wish to claim for warranty replacement or refund
Please note that physical damage is not cover under warranty"
How is this possible? Have I just thrown away £125? I'm really upset about this and don't know what to do.

You will have to try bend the line back or buy a new one . The pins can be bent back with a small jeweller screwdriver or something like that.
If you buy a new one don't unpack it until it is ready to be installed.0 -
There are a lot of tiny pins, some are squashed right back and look like they might break if I tried bending them. This came to me like this, hidden behind all the packaging so there was no way of telling it was faulty before it was opened.0

Just playing devils advocate but it happens when trying to fit it and putting it in the wrong way, its a common problem for them.
It almost unheard of for them to blame anyone other than the customer for this mistake.0 -
The trouble you will have is bent pins is a common issue when the processor has not been installed carefully. The shop will know this and have had many people before you try to return defective processors which in reality they have damaged trying to install them.
The shop will also know that the number of times they have opened a box and seen a new processor with bent pins is around zero, so they naturally assume you damaged it. You will have your work cut out to convince them otherwise.
They may replace it as a goodwill gesture of you ask.0 -
thank you. I am confident my son didn't try to install it and it came like this. You cannot see the pins until you open the box up.
I've contacted the company and I'll see if Paypal can help. I really cannot afford to lose that much money!0 -
When was the item delivered and when did you message them about the issue?
Anything over a day and you’ll be lucky to convince them it was delivered like that...0 -

And that's the problem I'm afraid. If you're only "confident" rather than say "100% certain" you can't really blame the supplier or manufacturer for not taking your word.0 -
Realistically you're not going to notice bent pins until you try to install it, unless you make a point of looking and it's really obvious.
How was it packed? Was it sealed?
I've received processors with bent pins in the past but packaging seems to be better these days.0 -
Was it a new part?
Coincidentally, I have also purchased a Ryzen 5 2600 on Saturday - Aria was the cheapest place I could find but I chose to pay a slight premium to get it from Amazon (directly, not marketplace seller). I have good experience with returns with Amazon.0 -
Hmmm, a brand new sealed processor came with bent pins from the factory - rather than the much more likely scenario of it being an accident upon installation?
Good luck, I think you'll have fun proving this one!0
