I got 20.
6 + 6 + 6 = 18
4 + 4 + 6 = 14
6 + 6 - 4 = 08
12 + 4 x 2 = 20 (Bodmas)Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.0 -
Agree with 20.
Always BODMAS, regardless of whether brackets exist or not. ALWAYS do Multiplication or Division before Addition and Subtraction, NOT simply Left to Right0 -
It’s 18 not 20.
One of the hats at the bottom doesn’t have a clover.
3(h+c)= 18
H+c=6
2g + h + c =14
2g + 6 = 14
2g = 8
G = 4
3c + 3c - g = 8
6c - g = 8
6c = 12
C = 2
So if c is 2 h is 4
(H+c+h) + 2c x g/2=
(4+2+4)+ (4 x 4/2)=
10 + 8=
18You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I got
6 + 6 + 6 = 18
4 + 4 + 6 = 14
(3x2) (3x2) - 4 = 8
(2x6) + (2x2) x 2 = 32 or using BODMAS 20 so which are they after?
Each shamrock = 2
Each hat = 6
Each full pint = 4A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others.0 -

The answer is 18.
The bottom sum one hat doesn’t have a shamrock.
You always use bodmas for these.You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

It's not a question of what are they after it's what is the correct answer. There is only one correct answer and ikkle87 sets that out in post #4. Basic maths.
I am surprised that Payday Lender site url's are not blocked by MSE. Not exactly money saving.0 -
12 +4 x 2=32 IS TOTALLY WRONG, the answer to that is 20 and always will be. Sorry to harp on about this but it does my head in that despite repeated examples being explained over various competitions, as again above by ikkle, folk persist in following some simplistic teaching they had in Primary school, which apparently they totally misunderstood probably because the teachers did not explain it properly, where you perform arithmetic calculations from left to right if there are no brackets. NO YOU DON'T; where there is multiplication or division you ALWAYS do those first, whether or not there are brackets around them. There is no choice, no 'what do they want', there is ONE unique answer to a problem like the above ALWAYS. PLEASE do not press my buttons......0
