We pay £12.88 a month, covers us both and pays out £100k
Those tyres seem VERY expensive, you should be able to get cheaper if you get recons, shop around
Lastly, well done on the 1st positive steps but please reread and digest IA's first post on your thread and dont rely to much on what you *hope* your future plans to be.

Hi,
I have to agree with tigtag, those tyres seem very expensive and I should know as we're looking for 2 at around £120 too but these are pirelli Pzero's so they should be worth that price...
what car are they for?
Good luck with your moneysaving

Hi toria, nil desperandum etc., you're doing really well.
Have you looked into working from home for 82ask or AQA? There is a thread on here about AQA and the good thing is you can sign on & work whenever you have time. (Not that I'd know as they turned me down....).
I'd sign up for mystery shopping anyway as the visits are often flexible so OH could cope with DD while you went - or he could do mystery shop. Also quite a few are for fast food meals - ok, not much good on Slimming World, but fine for an occasional treat and it's a free meal so helps with the budget.
Maybe I'm the only 1 on here, but I think it's doable for you. After all, you can do more hours come Sept so things like shoes etc can be cut back on till then.
Good luck & keep us informed as we're all rooting for you!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi all, havn't had time to reply to the post as I have been working overtime a bit this week (managed to do 9 hours) and have now got an awful cough. Anyway I managed to get a new tyre for £80, they cost this much as it is an unusual size and could not be repaired, I drive a ford fusion. the overtime I have done covers the cost of this luckily. He's told me not to do any more overtime this week as he thinks I need a break away from DD and work but I know when I get home he will have made dinner and run me a bath and would let me rest for the whole night if I wanted to, when he drops 20 hours a week our family life will be improved greatly and it means a lot to both of us that he spends more time with DD as both our dads worked long hours when we were little and we didn't see them for days on end.
I am definetly going to look into joining the nursing bank again and didn't think of doing 1 evening shift and then when from January I would be able to work a sunday long day aswell. I will be leaving this for a bit though as have a gp referral at the gym and have to go twice a week for next 3 months this is during off peak times and I also have to fit in overtime at work but I do have the application ready. Does anybody know if there are a minimum amount of shifts you have to do per month to stay on the bank??
I have asked work to consider me working days during term time and nights in the holidays. They said probably not but as I pointed out to them there is already a lady doing this but they said it has been the arrangement for years, still they are looking into it for me.
Of course as a last resort we would look at moving house but I think we really need to give it a go before this happens a lot can happen I may be able to increase my hours/ get a better job. At least we are starting off with a clean slate not current debts no interest being paid on anything (except mortgage obviously) so we will have to see how we get on. My mum has bought all of us new shoes, coats and other clothes for Christmas so that was a great help, my work shoes were 5 years old and had 2 big splits in each shoe so it was a necessity. I don't know what i'd do without my mum x
I know it may seem that OH is being selfish but he really isn't. He would do anything for his family. He was getting very depressed at his current job and exhausted and wasn't sleeping well. As soon as he made the decision to leave he felt like a huge weight had been lifted. Although he didn't have a job to go to when he told them they allowed him to stay until he found one. He does his share of the housework if I run out of time, does all the ironing will happily do any cooking and is amazing with our DD, as soon as he gets home from work he does everything with her and is the one to put her to bed every night and get up with her if shes ill etc. True it is me that controls all the money and bills, shopping but I prefer it that way as I am very good at juggling it all and have a lot more time than him, he's not the best with money and openly admits that I have saved us a lot in the past.
Thanks for all the suggestions and support it does make me feel a lot better having you lot to talk to.0 -
Have received a letter today about life insurance for OH, they say the high cost was due to occupation and weight. He works (wont be as of next week) in a scrap yard, this added £13.25 to his premium per month and £35 added due to weight!!! he was 15stone at 5ft 6. He is now 12st 7 but I think will still be classes as overweight by BMI calculators even though he is broad chested and not overweight to look at, he only wears a medium in clothes and 34inch trousers, he has no medical problems/family history and has never smoked and does not drink.
He is insured for £500,000 this was due to the size of initial mortgage (was £280,000) and the fact that I didn't work and with a young baby to provide for. Mortgage is now £170,000 so not sure what insurance should be for??
Anyway will hopefully will have new insurance set up soon.0 -
hopefully with all the new details it's going to drop down a lot then.I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammar

Hi all, not posted on here for a bit as when I arrived at work last Friday I had a major asthma attack and was rushed to hospital, treatment wasn't working and I nearnly stopped breathing altogether. Anyway I got released on Monday night even though my doctor says I shoulod have stayed in but OH has flu and daughter has a major cough and temperature too so we were all really struggling.
I have been signed off until 4th January and get reviewed again on 31st Dec, I am on loads of steroids and have been given a nebuliser to use 4 times a day which is really helping. Have been ordered to turn heating up a lot so am dreading heating bill but health comes first. I will also loose my wages again which isn't good but my mum has offered to help out.
I have had a letter from OH life insurance and they say it can be reduced from £92.37 to £47.77 a month, I still think this is too high and we are going to have a good look on the internet over Christmas.
Have a great Christmas everyone x0 -
Sorry to hear that toria but some things are more important than money, hope your health improves over christmas and that you all manage to enjoy it anyway. this is definitely one of those times to stop thinking about money and just turn up the heating, although up side is that if you are all in feeling rotten you can't be out spending money!
Take care. xMortgage OP 2026 £500/2000

Hi all not been on for ages as was still very ill untill just after new year, feel loads better now though.
OH is getting on really well in his new job, he's been there 2 weeks now and comes home smiling every day which is great he has already managed to do 4 hours overtime (£40 after tax) by starting a bit earlier in the mornings he also gets a £6-£8 allowancefor breakfast if he does this and he has been home 3 times at 2.30pm so it is taking the strain of doing everything off me a bit and I am relaxing more. I have had more time to do cooking to and freezer is bursting with the amount of meals I have cooked, we are managing really well on £130 a month shopping budget too which includes all cleaning products and nappies, was a bit worried if we would with the cost of things now, can't wait for my 10% discount to start in may.
I have also found out I was meant to have a pay rise in November from £5.97 to £6.28 so I am owed that back pay.
New life insurance is now set up at £34 a month which is much better this is for £180 reducing term to cover mortgage and £70 level term so we are well covered at nearnly a third of the cost.
I am back at work now but have to be really careful not to go off again as was told off the record if my high absence continues they are in their right to dismiss me, they give warnings at 7% absence mine is 23.6% and I have not had any warnings yet so am doing well, 3 of my freinds had them last week and 1 is on their final written warning.
Hope everyone else is well I am still reading all tips on other threads for ideas and inspiration.0
