As the title says - my partner is moving from employment into self employment and looking to set up a private pension. Who are the major providers, and generally the most popular choice? We just need some guidance really! Thanks

SIPPs generally offer the most flexibility in terms of available funds.
A guy on here called SnowMan built an spreadsheet outlining which is the most cost-effective platform based on how much you have invested etc.

If simplicity is the key requirement, try a stakeholder pension.0 -
Will he employed by his own limited company or self employed?
https://www.hl.co.uk/pensions/self-employed may be worth a read.
The above offers a SIPP - not the cheapest provider but excellent telephone service and web site.

If you feel ok doing things yourself then a SIPP could well be the better option and a second vote for the 'DIY Pensions' book.
If you don't want to go DIY then a stakeholder may be a simple option and also the so called Robo Advisers such as Moneyfarm or Nutmeg for example. We have a climate emergency and need to re-think investing strategies to avoid sectors that are part of the problem such as oil & gas and embrace climate-friendly options such as renewable energy.0 -

Does it matter?
I wouldnt use any of the top 5 apart from one in niche cases. The better ones are usually further down the list in terms of size.
