Incorrect NI number

I've been working at my current company for six years, and it appears that all this time my NI number has been a digit out. This came to light when the pension company picked it up.

It's been corrected, and I've logged into the HMRC portal and can see that my contributions show up for my entire working life. Not sure how, if the number was incorrect. I assume they must use other identifiers.

Does one need to contact HMRC in such situations?

The only way i find out if someones NINO is wrong is when either the pension company or HMRC tell me about it. It never comes from the employee. From that, they must have other identifiers they use.

You can contact them if you want to but it does look like theyve been applying your contributions to you so probably no need.
