Tax office contact - Non coded income

Hi,
Had just been checking online my new tax code of 2019/20 which seems ok and just looked at 2018/19 account only to find that though the tax code was still the same, it shows a Non Coded Income of £1600 though no idea of where that has come from, am a pensioner and little changes year on year.
Tried to use the online system ( which I only started using last year) but it only allows you to change or remove said value, no way to find out how or where its come from ?
Tried the 0300 phone line but unable to find any way to bypass their electronic assistant who always ends up directing you back online.
Seems no other way to send them a message ?
I could just delete said value online but need to know whats gone wrong .
thanks

Did you have any non-PAYE income the previous year?0

Hi,
Nothing shown online for the previous year/s or that I know about either.
Just that its showing a tax on that sum which is certainly not income I have received in any shape or form ...? wish I had
Seems their phone line is a nightmare and cannot find a way to get though to a real person ? .... could write/post but no idea how long , if at all it would be responded to ?0 -
HMRC seem to be trying to use P2 notices to attempt to collect tax in advance, based on the assumption that you'll have the same income as last year. That sounds diabolical enough - but it appears that in doing so they are ignoring the possibility that that income might be covered by allowances !! So you may not have paid any tax on savings and dividends - but that is not going to stop 'em.
So research carefully!
As for the telephone, I just keep quiet until I hear a human voice. Always works. Helps if you have a speaker phone - and a flat-rate call-charge system.
Mind you, the quality of their telephone advice is lamentable

Phones open 8 am but you often get an answer if you call just before 8am.
Try evening as the lines are open until 8pm.0 -
Hi,
Managed to get though to the tax line at 7.30pm, you just have to say quiet for nearly 3 mins to let the automated voice end and put you though to an actual person.
Seems the operator could not explain what the amount was , but after another 5 mins on hold , he confirmed there was no tax code change due on this or next years, and no tax to pay on it.
It would not break me if tax was demanded but its more why has it happened and will it again ?
Got everything printed out and notated should things not work out as they say.
Thanks.0 -

These don't make sense. How did the non coded income impact your tax code resulting in you believing tax was being charged?
And if it was resulting in you having to pay more tax then how come no tax code change is required i.e. there is no change to the original amount of tax expected to be paid.
Have you ever completed a Self Assessment return?0 -

Exactly ! because part of the printouts showed an amount of tax due on the £1600 , yet on the other pages it did not reflect in the tax code ?
No self assessment done since retiring some years ago.
As the help line could not clarify things, just saying they have no info on what the £1600 is or where it comes from, seems all I can do (?) is wait and see, and then challenge if they try and tax me for that amount, hence me documenting the above details and phone call.0
