Getting started with pensions in my 30s

  • I'm 37, & my retirement planning is based on getting as much free money going as I can - I pay into a LISA for the bonus, pay the max by sal sac to my pension to get the max employer contribution & pay the max I can into my employers share matching plan to get a 66% uplift in shares bought. I also then invest my own money into a S/S ISA.
Emergency cash fund etc is all sorted, & like you, I've got my bills as low as they can go.

I currently "save/invest" £901 a month for my future, the cost to me is roughly £500 a month, the rest made up of the free money I get from tax relief, free shares, employer contributions & LISA bonus.

Ok. At the end of this month I'm going to find out from my mortgage advisor how much my mortgage payments are going to go up by. I'll also find out shortly how much my council tax is going up by. Once I have that updated info about my outgoings, I'll make a decision, and if I think I can afford to put in the 7%, I will do that. (It makes me nervous because if I change my mind I can't do anything about it for 12 months!)
