Help, I've lied about my salary to my potential employers and now they're asking for my payslips.

Why would an employee want to see your payslips. That's sounds fishy to me and I would ask myself, do I really want to work for this company.

I think if you read the thread it’s blindingly obvious why they want to see them.

The trick is to waffle when asked

Typical I expect total arnings in the region of...
If challenged for this year you waffle this has been a challenging year, I can't disclose exact numbers as this is confidential information.

...and any sensible employer will then definitely be asking for proof of earnings....
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Nah. I've never disclosed my salary and never been asked for payslips even by big companies.

Have any of those jobs been sales roles where your main selling point is your purported fantastic sales performance? That’s the case with the OP.

As had been pointed out, they’re not interested in the OP’s salary. They’re interested in the commission, and by extension the OPs sales performance.

I find it incredible that people seem to think the employer should accept the OP’s claimed sales performance without any supporting evidence.

Bully for you, sunshine - but given that OP HAS been asked, so your comments are irrelevant to their question.

I’ve never been asked for payslips or bank statements when starting a new job either! Though have never worked in sales or on commission.

There are legitimate privacy reasons unrelated to lying about your salary or commission why you might not want to disclose these - for example if you had a garnishee order or CSA was taking money direct from your wage slip or even not wanting to disclose student loan status.

If last years P60 is more in line with your figures why not offer that now, and say they will have a P45 when you start. If you don’t get commission earned before you left that could go some way to explaining a discrepancy too

Not at the recruitment stage no. Good GDPR practice is only to collect info at the point at which it is needed which in OP’s case is when she has a confirmed offer and is organising payroll. Not at reference checking stage

:wall: they don't care about basic salary

Spin it another way a job needs a certain qualification I haven't got any but lie, they need to see it, should I lie about being lost?! Should I say well my precious employer when I job on the checkout didn't ask for one.
