Chiropractor suggests 18 visits

Hi,
I'd like some advice regarding using a Chiropractor.
I've recently visited a Chiropractor to address lower back aches.
The first visit was the consultant taking my history and the 2nd was to tell me why i was getting this pain.
It was suggested i should then have a course of treatment which equated 18 sessions. 2 a week for the first 6 weeks and then 1 a week for a further 6 weeks. The treatments may take a couple of minutes and the cost of £35 per treatment.
.
I'm keen to rid myself of pain and i know every patient is different, however i'm keen to know if patients generally need this many visits? Also how can they know the number of visits at the beginning? Surely this is dependant on how one feels during treatment.
Thanks in advance.

That's someone more interested in taking your money than getting you well!
Ask around and find a decent osteopath who will treat you as necessary, not when their bank balance needs topping up.0 -
I agree,
Having had severe back pain for many years (now gone thankfully) I went to a great Osteopath, he certainly never gave me an up front prediction of how many sessions it would take, surely they need to see how you respond after each treatment?0 -
I remember someone telling me that most back pain disappears within 3 months without any treatment. So if someone gives you 3 months of appointments you will probably have no back pain at the end even if they do nothing useful whatsoever.0

18 is very specific, why not 16 or 20?
OP they are only interested in your money. Find somebody based on word of mouth.0 -
Not sure how bad the back pain is, but I find learning to doing planks really help.
There are many variations of planks: Google them.
I find the side planks really help me. Also your stomach muscles may be really weak, another cause of back pain.
There is a site on youtube called Brightside , they have some really good exercises for lower back pain.
What I have also started to do in my job is to set my phone alarm every 90 minutes, and I get up and walk around and do some stretches. Sitting for a long time really makes the situation worse0
