As a Pharmacy Assistant ...
From 1st April EACH ITEM on a prescription will be charged at £9.00.
An annual pre-payment certificate will be staying at £104 for the year and covers you for ALL items on a year's worth of prescriptions, regardless of the number or frequency they are dispensed. This means that it will now work out cheaper to pay annually (which can actually be taken as a monthly direct debit) even if you only have one prescription item every 4 weeks. (Most items are dispensed as 28 days supply)
Three months pre-payment is also available at £29.30.
You can buy it online, or you can buy through your local pharmacy on the day you go in to collect a prescription - that way you don't lose any days....
They can't be backdated however and if you sign to say you have one and you don't, the fine is a hefty £80 per item at the mo!!!!

Actually, the fine is five times the per item charge with a maximum of £100. So, currently for one item £44 increasing to £45.
Source.
The best advice is to always sign section 2 on the back of the prescription stating the amount you have paid to avoid being accused later of not paying.0
