Work Relocation Travel Expenses

Hi
Is there any hard and fast rule on temporary travel expenses when being asked to relocate to another depot. My old depot is 10 miles away from my address, the newly built depot is an extra 26 miles on top making 36 in total.
We were I believe told that they would honour a temporary 6 month fuel allowance of £20 per week (fair enough) but that has been mysteriously changed to 3 months. Your thoughts please.

No rule at all on expenses. It could be regarded as a redundancy situation if the additional travelling was particularly costly in time or money but I don't know whether there's a rule about it or if it's a matter for negotiation.

Well HMRC allows travel expenses at 45p per mile - granted it's not mandatory, nor necessarily for this type of agreement, it would be in excess of £20 per day, not per week!

Is this a permanent change of location?

Entirely down to the company to decide I think. When the office I worked out of was relocated by one employer we could claim for the additional travel for 1 year.

When I was with DWP some staff who had been relocated received a relocation allowance for several years.

45p per day? 45p per mile isn't it?

Yes. They are moving two depots into a brand new facility. The other depot is nearer than ours and its an extra 250 miles per week which monthly works out at an extra £128 of fuel extra to find.

What evidence have you for the 6 month proposal?

Even if you get the 6 months agreement sorted, if you are likely to be struggling with £128 extra fuel costs afterwards maybe post a statement of your income and outgoings on the debt free wannabe board for people to give advice on how to save money. Everything from cutting out unnecessary expenses to frugal driving to cheaper replacement foods.
