Different eye test?

I have to defend Specsavers yet again. The branches are franchises, so the franchisee has a vested interest in maintaining a good, professional practice.
Our branch has two very experienced senior optometrists, although it does have younger, newly qualified people on placements, I think.
The one time I had trouble with my glasses was down to poor measurement by the dispenser. They were replaced without hesitation.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Hi, thanks for reply, just looked up slit lamp test but it seems to be for medical reasons and not sight testing. When I said the dots looked similar optician just kept saying one had to be clearer and just kept switching them back and forth repeating 1 or 2! Am going to book a different opticians but not sure which.
I find the whole testing method odd, I always thought it was done scientifically with measuring eye shape and light beams etc!, and I can't understand why when picking up glasses the vision isn't tested by the optician, instead a receptionist just asks if they feel ok!
It sound as though you got an optometrist with a poor "bedside" manner!
Virtually all of the various eye tests they use double check each other so don't be too worried by thinking you are getting it wrong. I agree with others so if "1 or 2" are so nearly the same you can't tell you should just say so!
If you can't establish a happy working relationship with this optometrist then I would simply try another. There are plenty to choose from!
If you happen to live near a university that trains optometrists (and don't mind spending a couple of hours having your eyes tested), you could go to one of their training clinics and get an incredibly thorough eye test, all double checked by the supervisor and all for free!0 -

The message here is that indies do best, at least in the small sample tested. I cannot recall a machine with black dots. I read a chart of letters for spherical correction, then look at a series of red and green circles for astigmatism, followed by a test of peripheral vision, an air puffer test, and an examination of both retinas with a microscope. .0
