uniform tax rebate

Options
Hi,

I applied for the uniform tax rebate and instead of getting a cheque or the money back they just put my tax code higher so i would eventually get the money back over the year. Has anyone else had a cheque back or is this how they do it?

Thanks

Barbara

I don't know whether it is how they usually do it but it certainly seems a good idea.

They don't have to produce cheques, you don't have to bother paying one in.

You incur expense during the year, so you get the benefit of the tax reduction through the year too.

At this point in the tax year it will mean getting a refund with your next pay (after your employer has been able to implement it).

It could also mean that those companies which make an income by getting the payment sent to them and from which they deduct their fees before passing anything on to you will lose their rip-off income.

In my experience it seems they issue cheques with regards to claims for previous tax years but adjust your tax code for claims for that year.

I got cheques and an adjusted tax code, the cheques where for claims from previous years and the adjusted code was to be used for that year and going forward. My OH tried claiming and they told her she owed something like 50p in tax as her tax code was already adjusted for uniforms even though she had never applied or informed them of such

I used to work for the NHS and got the same thing. In the first instance if you have paid the higher tax code you should receive a cheque but it may not come until the current tax year is over, after that your code will be changed so you pay less tax over the year.
    on the road to recovery..:o
