Advice on cashing in investment policy

Hello, I am single, 74, and have been out of the country for 12 years.
Because of concerns about the world economy and memories of 2008 I have decided to cash in investment policy taken out 30 years ago and add it to my pot for when and if I buy property. Any advice on tax efficiency would be greatly appreciated.
