For my little girls 5th birthday we had a pirates party and one of the favourite games was a swamp game - we filled a bucket with jelly with loads of rubber snakes, spiders etc.

A treasure hunt is always fun too.

Don't forget those balloons sablade. Most 4 year olds don't remember much about parties unless there are balloons ;) ;D

I used this website for lots of ideas for my son's 5th birthday. The children really enjoyed the Mummy Game !

i usualy hide sweets around the kids bedroom and as the children arrive let them go and look for them-I did try doing a set amount, but it's more trouble than it's worth because some kids just cant stop themselves and others are sticklers for rules. It seems to be a good ice breaker and avoids the clinging to the parents as they leave.Make sure you save some spares to put out for the last to arrive.Rather than doing a tresure hunt (which takes quite a lot of preperation) I paint a simple treasure map (I do get a bit carried away!but enjoy doing it in advance before all the other cooking preparation etc.)) get a piece of lining paper, tear all the edges ragged, rub all over with old tea bags, burn a few edges, paint a simple map, caves, swamps, forests etc.I do a realy faint cross on the back, which I even keep secret from myself! Pin it to a board and let them all put their cross on, nearest to the hidden cross obviously wins.usualy have chocolate coins for prize.
    Have a good time.

hi there I used to organize childrens' parties may I suggest when you play pass the parcel that in between the layers of newspapers you put a sweet or two.kids will be happier and not too upset when only one wins the prize. They could share the sweets at the end.
You could always do a drawing competition and make them choose the best.get them to draw the birthday boy or something funny.they'll be quiet for a little time.do this after a lot of lively games.Alternate 3 or 4 lively games with a quiet one. Also if a child gets upset at not winning at musical chairs suggest he/she helps with the music and get them to stop the music without looking. They'll be happier!Have a lovely party and have fun! ;D

  • how about trying to burst balloons by only sitting on them, or, picking up marbles with your toes and putting them into the sections of an eggbox (only one per section - not as easy as it sounds).

Another favourite was trying to keep a straight face while a grownup did silly things - last one to smile gets the prize.

kids party games are such fun - why can't the grownups play too??

    ;D

Sleeping lions is a MUST for near the end - but it may be what you know as dead fishes?

Simon Says is another one which can be a bit calmer.

    What's the Time, Mr Wolf

    Squeak Piggy Squeak

    Oranges and Lemons

In and out the dusty bluebells

    Lucy Locket

And the one where you have someone blindfolded on a chair and you have to try and creep up and grab something noisy underneath - bunch of keys, pile of 'treasure' - adapt it as required to the theme of the party! If the person on the chair hears anyone coming they point, if they point at you you have to go back.
