Got a DIP from Halifax even though I have a CCJ which I declared. It expires in march 2020.

Anyway they done the application for me and my partner and said that it had passed their credit check which I believe to be a soft check.

In still worried about going in for a full application as I've had conflicting information. I was just wondering how reliable a DIP is. We declared the debt we have and my ccj, also said we would clear down some debt before the mortgage starts in order to get the amount we need.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

A DIP is pretty much worthless... it says that based on why you’ve told us, without doing any appropriate checks, we MAY lend you x amount.

If you’re not using a broker then you may want to considering getting one... given the little information you have provided it would likely save you a whole heap of bother as will connect you with lenders happy to lend to your specific circumstances.

A soft search picks up statutory issues, such as CCJ, insolvency.

Your application may simply be strong enough in other areas to counterbalance the CCJ.

Halifax DIPs don't often turn into declines at full application unless the data in question is missing from one of your credit files (Experian) but is on the others...

I haven't actually checked my credit file, had a long ongoing dispute with Equifax taking money after months of trying to cancel as I've not been able to access.

I have checked clear score and that doesn't show any public records, it doesn't even seem to have the option for that, however my ccj does show on totally money and Noddle. Do you happen to know if Halifax would pick it up from those?
  • I'd strongly advise you check your credit file prior to application to pick up any hidden surprises.

We too had an Halifax DIP which turned into many declines (not the cleanest of credit histories) though we did finally obtain a mortgage, I'd strongly advise checking your credit report even if you have to pay the £2 to check (don't remember what that method is but I'm certain it's the paper copies)

I ment to say we haven't checked Equifax/Experian however we use Noddle/totally money/ clear score, which is believe shows the information held with those CRAs.
