Im 34 so not a million miles behind you. I hardly think I am over the hill and if I wanted to do something career wise, I would go out there and do it. You still have potentially another 30 years of working left.

I think the issue is that I just want stability and I am not going to get that whether I retrain or not. I've had some really crappy jobs in my time, I'll put my head down and get on with anything, I may not enjoy it but I will do anything without much complaint.

One thing I do remember from my time at Open Uni was I never had any time to myself. I value my free time a lot, I live for my weekends and I'll be honest I never appreciated them until I took on the Open Uni and I had no weekend effectively. Could I go back to that? I really don't think I could.

There are two types of respect in work - there is respect for the job and needing it done, and there is respect for you personally, separate from all the other employees doing the same job. To get the second it helps to show an interest and your own respect for the work. Taking an interest in the work will hopefully develop into a genuine interest which then makes the working day more interesting.
