Hello!
I'm a bit of a lurker on this board and I'm always inspired by all you domestic goddesses. I am a million miles away from being OS but I really want to be!
So, today I'm taking the plunge and I have made.....wait for it....
bread (with free fresh yeast from Mr T which I found out about on this thread. Thank you!)
onion and bacon quiche (including the pastry - I've never bought suet before)
corned beef hash (for DS1's tea because he doesn't like onions)
and after I've picked up DS1 from nursery we're going to make upside down pineapple cake - I've got tinned custard though, my culinary skills don't stretch that far!!
My OH is going to have a heart attack when he gets home, I've never cooked so much in my life!:rotfl:
Sorry for going on so much but I'm really excited about this, silly isn't it, being so excited about cooking a meal for the family from scratch.
You'll be hearing more from me 'cos I'll have a million questions if I'm going to carry on being OS, my cooking skills are shocking and I'm going to need all your help.

Well done! You must be a domestic goddess to attempt all that in one day
My first trip to these boards consisted of me making a lasagna :rotfl:
You can get some great help here on just about anything to do with food, shopping, cleaning, etc - everyone here is greatDon't half miss it when the forum goes down!!

Hi Monkey.
Good for you, my OH loves it when I have been surfing on here, we have all sorts of home made goodies for tea.
Next you'll be batch cooking and meal planning. :rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Thanks for your support everyone. The bread and the quiche are looking good - I really want to tuck in but I'm going to wait until OH gets home and do a big "ta-daa"!
I'll do the corned beef hash and cake later when ds1 is back from nursery. I'm just putting my feet up for a half an hour while ds2 (9 months) has his nap.
My OH was seriously impressed in Mr Ts yesterday when I waltzed up to the bakery and asked for fresh yeast and they gave to me for free!:rotfl:Worry is like a rocking chair - it keeps you busy but it gets you nowhere.

Baby woke up:rolleyes:
OH always knows when I've been on this board.
I got curtains off my mum last week to put behind the front door which is really draughty (this was after reading the "preparing for winter" thread), and OH comes home and says "You've been on MSE haven't you?" Ha Ha
I've been an SAHM for almost a year - DS1 is 4, DS2 is 9 months and number three is on its way - and I have to admit to being the worst housewife in the world!! It just does'nt come naturally to meI'm very disorganised and a long way off from batch cooking and meal planning. One day....

You're not the only one!!!
I used to be so very far away from meal planning and batch cooking - don't batch cook a huge amount but if I don't meal plan for at least 2 weeks ahead I start to panic! :rotfl:
Now that I meal plan, we run out of less things and I have just recently got a slow cooker which means that the meal planning is even more useful as I know what I have to chop up the night before ready to throw into the SC in the morning before leaving for work
It took me months to get the courage to roast my first chicken. Then just a few months later, mum thought it was funny that I was using the chicken carcass to make soup like she used to - didn't even remember she used to do thisworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

 I'm gutted. I've just got back from nursery and about a third of the quiche is gone!! I'd left it on the hob to cool and the neighbour's cat has got in and snaffled it. I can't believe it. No offence to any cat lovers out there but if I catch that ugly fleabag I'm gonna @!£#% !#@%&*Worry is like a rocking chair - it keeps you busy but it gets you nowhere.

Welcome Monkey to MSE MSOS
. I'm a bit of a lurker myself actually; luckily folk here are not offended by that and are extremely helpful. Take care
BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Hi MONKEY - sorry the neighbour's cat nicked your quiche but don't let it put you off any more baking. You sound like you're really flying - this OS is so worth the effort. I love it when my DH enjoys a meal and I tell him it cost next to nothing to produce. The OS daily forum is, I think, the best one on here. The people who post are fantastic and always there with advice, tips, hugs, sympathy and a good laugh - don't know what I'd do if it went down forever! Anyone is welcome so please don't lurk - come and join us!
