    But traffic lights change more frequently to keep traffic moving. They'll only be red for a minute or so normally. Level crossings can be closed for 5-10 minutes, and sometimes even longer if there's a succession of trains.

    I suspect the money doesn't exist to remove all level crossings now or anytime soon but it does seem to me that some close too early and stay closed too long. It is this which provokes some to very unwise and dangerous actions.
