Capital gain and child maintenance

Looking for some advice here please. I am currently a paying parent on a child maintenance setup.
I am considering selling a house I have had for a long time and will no doubt attract a capital gain.
I spoke with my accountant about this today and he was of the opinion that a capital gain following a house sale was exempt from being used in any future assessments. He indicated it was capital gains that were earned that were used in assessment therefore this would be out with earnings. I can't really find any info to support or refute this suggestion can anyone advise here please?
Many thanks in advance
