Remortgaging with Barclays

We currently have a mortgage with Barclays. When I log on to online banking there's an option to "switch to a new rate" and I looked today and there is a similar deal, but with a 0.5% lower interest rate than we currently have (its an offset tracker).
Does anyone have experience of remortgaging with Barclays online? Is it simple? What checks do they need? I'm on maternity leave and have also reduced my hours compared to when we first applied two years ago. If you are declined does this affect your current deal?
