Naming a star - genuine?

Has anyone bought/named a star? Is it genuine? Are there multiple owners to some stars. One site I'm looking at, you can 'buy' stars from the zodiac - surely there's only so many before they run out or have multiple owners?
It's my dads birthday soon and he is into astrology.
He moved in with us as my mum died 3m ago.
I'm thinking of naming a star after mum, for dads birthday (it would also have been their wedding anniversary), so when my toddler asks to go outside to see the stars (every single night lol) dad can point out which one 'is' mum.
Sites vary in price though, from £16,99 to £179,00.
I'd like to go for a medium package of about 100, but will be really miffed if I then found out it's a con, esp given the reason for buying/naming a star!
