I notice that some that claim to be made of natural products or, at least, recycled plastic are now available.

Can anyone advise from experience as to whether they're any good?

The EcoForce ones are decent. They last a long time and do a good enough job, although they don't really compare to the really harsher scourers you can get.
Don't waste your money on the loofco one. It looks like a normal loofah cut down to scourer size. You can do that yourself for less money - Wilko sell big loofahs for £1, Superdrug sells smaller ones for £2.49 but often on BOGOHP/342. I don't find loofahs terribly effective for the tasks where you really need to scrub, but they're good as general washing up sponges. If you want to use them as scourers, I'd have a couple on the go at once - they soften over time so just use the newer one as a scourer and the older, softer ones for more general cleaning. Environmentally, I think loofahs are the better option - they just go in the compost when they get too soft/fall to bits. I believe you can grow them yourself if you want.0 -

Very informative, thank you. Cutting down on the plastics in my household still has a few tough puzzles to solve but I'm getting there slowly!0 -
Re loofah/cut down. I wasn't really reading, but some woman was "touting" these on her blog/shop. Somebody said "isn't that a loofah? Aren't they an endangered item?"
She replied: "No, they're a member of the courgette family" (I THINK she said courgette; something that grows anyway). Anyway, she was clearly saying they look like a loofah but aren't. It would need further investigation to establish if they are loofahs/not and what they are...
But, save your money. There's a lot of pricey "middle class nonsense" out there, sold only to keep "ladies who lunch" in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed and nothing actually to do with saving anything other than their face.0
