Hi I just wondered how (if at all) I can keep the debt collectors at bay until I’ve managed to get the BR funds together plus a small emergency fund?
Several accounts have now defaulted and have been passed to debt collectors. Not all yet. Getting phone calls and whatnot on the daily. Starting to fret slightly! Is it worth sending them a holding letter? Or just keep going knowing Br is going to trump everything ?

I know it can be a struggle to find the BR funds. Have you tried any of the organisations that can help with fees?
Its been a while now since you posted about stopping paying your creditors to save for the BR fees - about 6 or 7 months? I should imagine you are getting a bit close to the wire with some of your creditors now so its almost a bit late for holding letters but perhaps it worth a go.
How long do you think it will take you to get the fees together?0 -
been close to 8 month s since you started your bankruptcy route - surely you should have had the fee by now, which is why you should, or hopefully are, speaking to an advice agency like CAB or stepchange0

Personally I have had some good luck with phoning or writing to them and letting them know I am looking into debt solutions requesting that they bare with me for a couple of months. I wouldn't specifically mention bankruptcy as this could make them speed up proceedings if they think they will end up with noting from it. Make it sound as though you are looking for the best solution for everybody without actually saying that they will benefit from it.
I've found that creditors who you owe more money to, seem to be more willing to wait. By far the worst debt collector I had for insistance was for a debt of £100, the ones who I owed many thousands to were fairly patient.
If you do opt for phoning them I'd recommend installing a call recorder app on your phone, not so much for protection, but so you can re-check what was said if you forget.I may be wrong sometimes, I learn a little every time I'm corrected.0 -
All our debts were bank or credit cards and we wrote to them to say we were seeking advice from debt charities. There is a sample letter on National Debtline website, I think. They mostly accepted a delay and some even froze the interest after receiving the letter.0

Debt collection can take a long time, its true, the smaller the debt, the harder its chased, just concentrate on getting the fee`s together, worst case senario is a CCJ, which will be overturned in bankrupcy, most original creditors don`t take court action, its usually the debt purchasing companies that do that, and only then after they have run through there range of standard letters, and you have ignored them for a year or so.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Can’t get help with the fee as I have a full time wage coming in - I’m just not eligible.
Yes I’ve spoken to stepchange.
Yes - I surely should have had the money by now however if I was great with my cash I wouldn’t be in this position would I? I’m also currently having more investigations to find out whether my cancer has returned / spread as well as having a family member diagnosed yesterday. So I’m trying to find the right time and be in the right place mentally to deal with the initially stress / fallout after submitting the application.
Thank you for that info above that’s all I needed to know! much appreciated.0 -
Sorry - didn’t intend to sound ungrateful in the above reply - if I did I apologise! Just very stressful time at the moment.0

Just add - its 6 months this month since deciding to go down this route.0

Hello, if BR is the route for you the relief & almost tranquil few days after submitting is a massive relief. It's like the world stops & you can move onto other things. As soon as you can just do it.0
